Job Details:

We are seeking a Clerk-Receptionist to help cover during busy periods and for vacations. Shifts available for this position are: 5:30a-2p, 8a-4:30p & 12p-7:30p.

Clerk-Receptionist

GENERAL SUMMARY: Under general supervision of the unit's Coordinator, performs reception and admission duties and provides general clerical support for the Pre-Admission Testing Unit. The PAT Receptionist, Admitting Clerk, and SDC Receptionist rotate positions on a weekly basis.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. As the Admitting Clerk:

a. Registers AM admit, observation SDC, C-Section and AM in-house patients. Interviews patients to obtain pertinent information. Enters registration data into computer. Prints Hospital card via embosser. Additional OREF registration when applicable.

b. Prepares admission/registration charts.

c. Completes insurance and billing forms.

d. Gives patient proxy and Hospital information.

e. Maintains patient registration logs.

f. Answers phone and takes bookings for PAT appointments and readjusts appointment time at patient's request.

g. Delivers patient information to various departments.

h. Relieves the PAT Receptionist.

2. As the Reception in Pre-Admission Testing:

a. Prepares charts for nurses review.

b. Completes registration process for SDC patient on the day of surgery.

c. Identifies medical record number for the Medical Record Department.

d. Answers phone and takes booking for PAT appointments and readjusts appointment times at patient s request.

e. Talks with physicians offices for the collection of patient information.

f. Tracks patient during the PAT visit.

g. Maintains an accurate filing system.

h. Provides patient lists for other departments in the Hospital.

i. Relieves the Admitting Clerk.

3. As the Receptionist in the Surgical Day Care Waiting Room:

a. Greets and interacts with patients and families during the day of surgery.

b. Confirms patient identification.

c. Coordinates information concerning the status of the patient for family members with the SDC and PACU staff.

d. Assembles charts and is responsible to have all necessary paperwork in chart prior to surgery.

e. Verifies surgical procedure.

f. Talks to physician's office, ancillary departments (EKG, CXR, Lab, Admitting) to obtain pertinent information prior to surgery.

g. Is responsible for listing allergies on chart front and allergy band.

h. Checks LAR order sheet for premedication order prior to procedure.

i. Coordinates pertinent information from surgeon s office for Lithotripsy patients.

4. Ensures that adequate office supplies are available for smooth operation of the unit.

5. Performs minor maintenance functions on office equipment.

KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE AND OTHER JOB REQUIREMENTS:

1. The level of knowledge equivalent to that ordinarily acquired through the completion of high school.

2. Three to six months of office experience. Automated data entry/retrieval experience and medical terminology.
