Jobing Description
The Director of Development leads a department charged with responsibility of securing all the needed annual operating support from individuals, corporations, and foundations. All private support solicited by the organization falls to this department s responsibility and, in such, is critical to the success of the operation. The Director manages a staff of nine with varying levels of experience and using different approaches to fundraising grant writing, direct response, and personal relationships, in order to secure the necessary private support.
Job Responsibilities
* Organize an annual plan of work to achieve operating support goals established by the Board.
* Manage the Development staff to meet objectives
* Create strategies and programs that will raise private support in the areas of annual giving, planned giving, and in kind donations. Tactics will include personal solicitation, direct response, grant writing, and events.
* Manage development information technology systems, business practices and databases to insure accurate and timely gift administration.
* Develop and execute a program of stewardship and donor recognition to retain current donors and increase support, and renew lapsed and prior donors.
* The Director of Development will have a high degree of autonomy in creating cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies for assigned prospects. Superior judgment will be needed.
Application Qualifications
* Bachelor s degree required. Master s degree a plus. 7-10 years of progressive, significant fund raising or related experience including strategic planning, prospect development and solicitation, team management, forecasting, data analysis, interpretation and reporting. A minimum of 5 years of professional non profit employment is required, and may be supplemented by significant experience in private sector in the areas of sales, sales force development and management, business development, and other related experience.
* Experience working with, motivating, and managing board members and/or other volunteers;
* Knowledge of and experience with the Massachusetts philanthropic community is highly desirable.
* A track record of personally soliciting and closing gifts of at least five figures.
* Strong knowledge of Raiser s Edge or similar donor database system.
* A demonstrated ability to lead, manage, and inspire a team of people emphasizing teamwork, respect and excellence;
* Proven ability to handle multiple responsibilities and priorities in a fast paced environment.
* Prior successful experience in running successful annual giving programs a strong plus.
* Excellent presentation, verbal, and writing skills, with the ability to speak persuasively about the organization.
* Self driven to succeed and be committed to the mission of the GBFB.
