Jobing Description

The University of Chicago,Division of the Humanities seeks a Sr. Payroll Coordinator and Financial Assistant. The position processes all transactions related to domestic or international payroll for staff, student, temp, and sometimes faculty positions; prepares salary analysis if requested; designs and delivers Power Point presentations to faculty, staff and student employees; trains and instructs faculty individually or in group settings on the use of the University's various accounting systems (i.e., GEMS, BuySite, Time and Attendance, etc), provides the same support to staff and students, and disseminates payroll practices to all; processes financial transactions and other transactions managed by the Office of Administrative Services; reconciles financial ledgers monthly; compiles reports; uses a FileMaker Pro database; performs mail merges and produces mailings; serves as a backup to the Faculty Services Assistant; communicates with all divisional members verbally and in writing; and performs other duties as assigned. The Assistant's work is accomplished within a team environment and in accordance with the mission of the Department, the Division, and the University.

The office of Administrative Services assists Humanities faculty and staff with reimbursements, travel expenses, moving expenses, research allowances, and visa issues. The office also handles payroll for Humanities faculty, staff, and students working as research assistants, course assistants, or lecturers for the Division.

Education requirements:

Candidate must demonstrate the following competencies: manage interpersonal relationships and interact/communicate with clarity, tact, and courtesy with patrons, staff, faculty, students, and others; communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing; identify priorities; recognize and resolve or refer problems; work effectively with supervision and as a part of a team; use or learn a range of position-related software applications; office experience required; experience working in higher education support services preferred; experience working directly with faculty and students preferred.
