Position Description:

Southborough, MA - The Strategic Purchasing manager will be responsible for developing and managing the Purchasing strategy for an identified portfolio of material groups within the Gyrus spend portfolio to maximize supplier value in the areas of cost, quality and innovation. The incumbent will form part of a team which will be responsible for identifying and developing an effective supply base for all major Gyrus material groups, helping to ensure that innovative products are developed on-time, competitively and with sustainable quality. This position is a leadership role will provide innovation and vision in purchasing and supplier management strategic direction. EOE M/F/D/V

Requirements and Responsibilities:

* Develop a short, medium, and long term strategy for supplier management and development to defined materials groups to help ensure high quality, cost effective parts supply to new product development teams and manufacturing facilities.

* Work with internal customers in order to help define the requirements from Strategic, Preferred, and Approved suppliers within a given material group.

* Help to develop a supplier segmentation model which can be used to assess the current supply base and identify areas of risk (gap analysis).

* Identify strategic partners capable of meeting the business needs now and in the future.

* Negotiate long term agreements which will deliver competitive advantage for Olympus Gyrus-ACMI and help ensure supplier investment to support OGA technology roadmap.

* Work closely with internal teams in order to take responsibility for all supplier contracts commercial, quality assurance, logistics and non-disclosure.

* Complete a risk assessment by material group and develop a low cost country sourcing strategy with labor- intensive materials increasingly being sourced from low-wage countries.

* Develop a strategic supplier network which is able to drive value in the new product development (NPD) process.

* Work with the NPD Purchasing Team to ensure early supplier engagement in the areas of material selection and specification development (design for manufacture).

* Have a precise awareness of market prices for all commodities under direct ownership-optimizing overall purchasing costs by following a total cost of ownership approach with our suppliers.

* Ensure that purchasing concepts are continually developed in search of innovative solutions and suppliers.

* Work closely with wider Purchasing teams, across Olympus regions, in the area of strategy development to drive commonality in processes and leverage purchasing synergies.

* Perform all other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

(ONLY QUALIFIED CANDIDATES WILL BE CONSIDERED)

* A Bachelors Degree is required.

* A minimum of 10 years of Purchasing and Materials Management experience is preferred.

* A minimum of 5 or more years of purchasing strategy development experience is desired.

* Five or more years of experience at management level in medical device or other regulated industry preferred.

* CPM (NAPM) certification is preferred.

* The ability to work at both strategic and operational levels with a high level of commercial acumen is essential.

* Must be a persuasive presenter and facilitator with the ability to engage and gain support throughout the senior management team and with junior team members is vital.

* Excellent interpersonal and influencing skills are required.

* The ability to develop strong and effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders at the senior level is essential.

* An understanding of regulatory frameworks is desired.

* A thorough understanding of, and experience with, various inventory management practices such as Consignment, VMI, Kanban etc. is preferred.

* A highly commercial, delivery focused experience with exceptional business acumen and proven ability to lead projects is required.

* Strong strategic planning and project management/ organizational skills are vital.

* Must be high energy, self motivated, hands-on and participatory with strong results orientation and the ability to quickly establish priorities.

* Motivational and team building skills with ability to lead organizational change and demonstrated decision making capabilities is essential.

* Strong relationship development skills with the ability to manage and motivate both up and down the organization are necessary.

* Advanced experience in Microsoft Office, Microsoft Project, Visio, PowerPoint, Access, Excel or related software is essential.

* Exceptional communication skills in written and verbal format are vital.

* Must be comfortable presenting at all levels.

* The ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals is required.

* Must be able to compute rate, ratio, and percent, as well as draw and interpret bar graphs.

* The ability to apply common sense understanding in order to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form is necessary.

*The following physical demands are required:
