Job Description

The Investment Director, a member of the equity research team, is responsible for 1) identifying and conducting research on investment firms the global equity strategies they offer; 2) monitoring the strategies that are investing on behalf of our clients; 3) acting as a resource for the firm’s portfolio managers; and 4) identifying strategic trends related to investing in publicly listed equities.

Principal Duties

  • Lead relationships with and act as a primary point of contact for global equity investment managers. Lead meetings and manage workflow of information to the team and other investment directors.

  • Identify and conduct due diligence on global equity managers that best meet the needs, performance objectives, and risk tolerance of the firm’s clients. Analyze fund’s organization, investment strategy, performance, terms, current portfolio positions, and other key attributes. Lead in-person meetings, often onsite, and conduct reference calls with industry participants. In collaboration with colleagues, develop the house opinion on managers.

  • Actively monitor and evaluate global equity managers on an ongoing basis.

  • Attend and when appropriate represent the firm at industry conferences.

  • Complete written research used by clients and colleagues to support investment decisions. This includes concise commentaries summarizing meetings with fund managers, in-depth due diligence reports, and other periodic research pieces.

  • Serve as the firm’s expert on global equity managers. Engage proactively and regularly with colleagues to pitch these investment opportunities, offering suggestions for managers that would complement existing exposures.

  • Collaborate with the team’s investment directors in other geographies and with the firm’s Capital Markets Research group to evaluate market trends across regions and strategies and disseminate findings to colleagues and clients. Author or co-author periodic thematic research reports on relevant topics.

  • Delegate and coordinate analyses and other work with associates on the team. This may include managing associate-level team members.

  • Present at a variety internal meetings, investment research committee discussions, and marketing presentations

Qualifications

  • BA/BS required. MBA and / or CFA strongly preferred.

  • At least 5 years of investment experience, with a majority of that experience specifically in securities listed outside the United States. Exceptional and deep level of expertise in this area.

  • Existing manager relationships in the global equity space and ability to develop new relationships.

  • Prior experience conducting fund due diligence; with references able to attest to judgment.

  • Outstanding presentation skills.

  • Demonstrated analytical skills; strong written and oral communication skills.

  • Experience in negotiations.

  • Ability to drive the project management process, providing clear direction and managing deadlines, workflow, and quality control for projects.

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently.
