Additional Qualifications
Evidence of outstanding academic achievement and analytical skills. Indication of training and good habits in writing and research, including gathering and synthesizing information.
 
Evidence of reliability and meticulousness in attention to detail and organization and ability to follow projects through to completion.

Job-Specific Responsibilities
Julie Battilana (Professor of Business Administration in the Organizational Behavior Unit at Harvard Business School and Professor of Social Innovation at Harvard Kennedy School) is seeking a Research Associate for two or more years, beginning this summer (start date flexible). The Research Associate will support research projects about hybrid organizations (which combine aspects of typical corporations and typical not-for-profits to pursue financial and social goals at the same time), as well as the study of power in society. The research agenda aims to contribute to the movement to reimagine capitalism to benefit not only shareholders but also people and the planet.
 
The Research Associate will join a research team and receive functional direction from Professor Battilana and another researcher, while reporting administratively to the Research Staff Services manager. Ideal candidates will be comfortable in an environment that requires a high level of independence, intellectual curiosity, and the ability to use discretionary judgment, as well as the ability to work well in a team.
 
Primary Duties:

 
Support writing and editing of a book about how power shapes human relationships, organizations, and societies. Tasks may include literature searches, literature reviews, story development, and interview participation.
 
Support development of an index to measure the level of hybridization (dimensions that enable businesses to pursue joint social and financial goals) in a given country in a given year. Tasks may include contributing to refining the research strategy, gathering secondary data, constructing indicators, and collaborating with subject matter experts who will provide feedback.
 
Support development of a survey of businesses to understand the organizational practices that support their joint pursuit of social and financial goals. Tasks may include contributing to refining the research strategy, reviewing existing literature, constructing survey items, and piloting the survey.
 
Contribute to other scholarly research products such as academic journal articles, articles for practitioners, teaching cases, and presentations. Tasks may include copyediting, information gathering, and citation management.
 
Complete work with only general direction. Independently manage timelines and deliverables. Exercise independent decision-making with regard to progression of research project and methodologies. Structure assignments and keep team members informed as necessary, using own judgment.
 
Be aware of department, School, University, and potential outside research policies and regulations, and ensure compliance.
