Open Water Power is a rapidly-developing division of L3 Technologies Sensor Systems. We are pioneering power systems for underwater applications using our novel aluminum-water chemistry. These power systems will revolutionize the deployment and utility of underwater vehicles and sensors.
L3 Open Water Power is a small group (about 20 people) of talented and curious engineers, scientists, and technicians who are focused on bringing our power systems to market. We operate as an agile, exciting startup environment supported by the larger L3 organization. Our work involves full design and development, from fundamental science and chemical engineering up to manufacture and assembly of complete systems. We are looking for engaging, hands-on people to join our team. We focus on finding good teammates with strong work ethic, an ability to share knowledge, and an interest in creative problem solving.
We are currently looking for a test engineer to join our team. This is an exciting role that will take the lead on testing new prototypes across several projects, giving consistency to our test setup and having a dedicated, watchful eye to ensure we spread what we learn in each test across all projects. You will work with each project lead to craft solutions to issues discovered during the test or post-test teardown. Schedule flexibility is key to this role, as you'll be "on call" during important tests in lab. The role will also likely have a travel component as we start to test in the ocean and at customer facilities, and you'll be the point person for on-site troubleshooting. This is an important role: our testing data is what proves our systems work to the world, and you'll be responsible for it.
Work closely with other team members to coordinate preparation for each power module test
Coordinate test goals with program managers
Troubleshoot and solve issues before, during, and after tests
Document test conditions, observations, and system performance
Perform post-test module teardown and analysis
Lead recording, organization, and backup of test data records
Participate in system and sub-system design reviews
Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Applied Physics, or similar
Bachelor's level plus 2-5 years related experience OR Master's level plus 0-2 years related experience
Experience with SolidWorks and standard machining practices
Experience with mechanical assembly
Experience with high level electronics troubleshooting
Experience with power systems or underwater vehicles a plus
Candidate must be a US citizen or green card holder
